LET'S SPREAD WARMTH AT PUGA
LET'S SPREAD WARMTH AT PUGA - Bringing Comfort, Hope, and Education to Ladakh’s Nomadic Children
Overview
In the breathtaking yet unforgiving landscapes of Puga Korzok, Ladakh, where temperatures fall below -25°C, children from nomadic tribal families brave extreme conditions in their pursuit of education. Their families, who have survived for generations amidst harsh terrain and limited resources, face an ongoing struggle to provide stability and opportunity for their young ones.
For these children, schooling is more than just learning. It is a lifeline to a brighter future, a chance to break free from cycles of hardship, and an opportunity to dream beyond their traditional way of life. But in classrooms without heating, the freezing cold becomes an obstacle, forcing many parents to reconsider keeping their children in school. The threat of dropout due to discomfort and severe winters is a reality that needed an urgent solution.
Recognizing this challenge, and on the request of LAHDC & school officials Headlight Foundation, with the invaluable support of Giesecke & Devrient MS India Pvt. Ltd. (G&D), Royal Bikers, and the larger motorcycling community, launched the "Let’s Spread Warmth at Puga" project. This initiative was designed not only to provide warmth but to safeguard education, nurture hope, and ensure that no child’s learning journey is cut short by the cold.

The Project: A Mission to Empower and Protect
With a vision to create a more conducive and comfortable learning environment, we embarked on a journey to equip the Government Nomadic Residential School, Puga in Korzok, Ladakh UT, with high-performance heating systems. These systems, ensure that classrooms are warm and welcoming even in the harshest winters.
Alongside this, thermal water bottles were distributed to students. It’s a small yet significant additions to their daily routines that help them stay hydrated and protected against the bitter cold.
This initiative was executed swiftly and efficiently, overcoming logistical challenges and difficult terrain to ensure immediate impact.

Impact: The Gift of Warmth, Learning, and a Future
The transformation was instant and heartfelt. As the heating systems were installed, smiles spread across the faces of the children, their families, and the school staff. Parents who once feared sending their children to school in the brutal winters now felt reassured, knowing that their children could study in comfort and safety.
This project was never just about infrastructure, but it was about empowerment. It was about ensuring education is uninterrupted despite the challenges of geography and climate. It was about giving children the chance to focus on their dreams rather than their struggles.

With these improvements:
- Students can study without distraction or discomfort, improving their focus and motivation.
- Parents are more confident in keeping their children enrolled, reducing dropout risks.
- A blueprint for future initiatives has been created, proving that small yet meaningful interventions can bring lasting change.
